Irene's jaw-dropping transformation
What did you want to achieve when you started the process at ONE?
I always wanted a lean and athletic figure. I had been going to gym & boxing regularly for many years, but found that I reached a plateau and couldn’t achieve the figure I wanted despite exercising 4 to 5 times a week and feeding on apples and oats (and wine) only.
Did you achieve the physique you were looking for?
Well I like to aim high to always keep myself motivated and achieve more. I haven’t achieved my idol’s figure (my idols are super models) but I have achieved the lean and athletic figure that I was looking for. There is always room for improvements though.
What are the 3 lessons learnt at ONE?
1. Eat right - ‘you are what you eat’......that is the first thing Jon taught me, and the most useful tip to losing weight. The diet plans that Jon gives me, with regular review and adjustment to the plan based on my progress held the key to achieving my idea physique.
2. Train right - Most female (especially Asian) thinks that weight training will make you bulky and masculine looking. I used to think the same and did only cardio exercise and boxing 4-5times a week, and I was proven wrong. Now I do 3 days of HEAVY weight training and 2 days of cardio exercise. The heavy weight training combined with the right diet helped me achieve the lean figure that I have been aiming for long.
3. Set your goals - setting a goal, keep monitoring the progress helped me understand more about my body. It helps me stay focused on what I need to do, and how I should adjust my diet and training to achieve my goal.
How did your trainer help you in getting to your goal?
Review my progress and adjust my diet and training regularly. Ignore my complaints when he stacks up more weights and push me hard to finish my sets (I see joy in his eyes when he sees me in pain).
What was the best nutrition tip for you?
Not eating is not going to get you anywhere. The key is to focus on the 3 macros and provide your body with the nutrients that it needs. I used to eat 1 meal a day and it didn’t get me the physique I wanted. Now I eat 4-5 meals a day, not starving myself anymore, and I have made much better progress and feel healthier.
What would you say to someone who thinks getting a result is too hard?
Never give up. Anything is possible as long as you stay focus.
The biggest lifestyle change you have kept and will continue to?
Cooking everyday! I couldn’t even make instant noodles without turning it into ‘tofu’ before starting at The ONE. I used to think why waste time in cooking when you can buy it. Now I prefer cooking myself so I can control my macros, and only eat out at restaurants which I think is worth using up my cheat meal quotas. I find that you just can’t control your macros and get the nutrients that your body needs if you eat out all the time.
Final words to sum up your experience with ONE
GREAT! Different to other Private Trainers that I trained with previously, Jon focuses on what my body needs to achieve my goal, always keeping me focused and on track. No pain no gain, and it feels great and well worth the effort once I see the results that I have always wanted.
